Graduate's Granddaughter
This picture was sent to me by Mikael Tobiasen in Denmark. She is a mare by Vean Traveller, who was by Senruf Graduate x Vean Mary Rose. Traveller was exported to Sweden as a weaned foal, and became a very successful stallion and sire there.
The mare was Mare of the Year a while ago, and Mikael thought I would like to see her, being granddaughter to my beloved Graduate.

l heard that Pricklegate Brown Owl qualified for Olympia at the BSPS Champs recently. This pony, bred by Jane Harries, is out of a Ch. mare D. Holly Blue, who Jane bought from Joy Wyman, for her daughter to do M&M L/R. When her daughter went on to a bigger pony, (she now rides for Gareth Hughes), Jane started breeding Dartmoor ponies under the Pricklegate prefix. Well done Holly Blue, now an old lady, and all connections.

A lovely morning at the Dartmoor Breed show today.
I took 4 boys - 3 colts and a gelding (just like the old days, great fun).
Firstly, thank you to my 2 novice handlers, Carla and Flower, who both did a wonderful job. l was really proud at how the boys looked and behaved, so gave myself a pat on the back too.
Dunmere King Eider and Dunmere Jubilant were both in the yearling colts, being 2nd and 4th. It was King Eider's first outing too. Next in was Dunmere Meganza, 2nd in the 2/3yo geldings, and best 3yo. Last in was Dunmere Playful, also 2nd, in 2/3yo colts.
l had a lot of lovely comments from outside the ring, which is always nice.
The icing on the cake was seeing Dunmere Aberfeldy, owned by Hannah Crisp, and ridden by daughter Emily, totally home produced, win the Novice L/R, Open L/R and go Mini Champion. What a season they have had. l hear they are going hound exercising soon.

Although Nobby, my P/B yearling, looks at everyone with astonishment on his face, he seems to have become the leader of the boy gang. Hannah, his owner, and Emily, her daughter, are new to showing and feeling their way, so realise they have more homework to do. Enjoy the learning curve - you are a great team!

We felt that he had done enough, with a long journey and 2 classes, so didn't go forward. As the morning went on he settled well, and grew in confidence.

Toby (D Playful) went out for the first time. Very pleased with how he coped with it all, and thrilled when he was 1st in yearling colt/filly/gelding, qualifying for the NPS/Pottofields stud M&M in hand summer national Championship. We felt that he had done enough, with a long journey and 2 classes, so didn't go forward. As the morning went on he settled well, and grew in confidence.
George (D Hottentot Teal) was 1st in the 2/3yo filly/gelding, with his full brother Arnie (D Meganza), going out for the first time this season, and being 4th (pulled in 3rd), and best 2yo. I knew that Arnie is still carrying a bit too much weight, so was very pleased with the result.
A huge "thank you" to Stuart Stafford for showing George and Toby so well, and to Hannah Crisp, who showed Arnie, and is growing in confidence.

28th July 2022
We ventured out to our first show of the year yesterday, one of my favourites,
New Forest and Hants.
D Hottentot Teal (George) had his first ever outing in the 3yo and under Dartmoor/Exmoor class, behaving very well. 1st was really pleasing, but he went one better and was Champion Dartmoor/Exmoor, beating the adults too! He went beautifully getting to and in the main ring, which was very busy.
A huge thank you to Michaela Toms for showing him, having only met him and me on our arrival at the show. I am over the moon for this dear chap, whom I have always thought has a great future ridden.
A long day - 3am start, back home 6pm.

Hannah is gaining lots of confidence and experience this season, and it is lovely to share her enthusiasm.

Royal Cornwall Show
At the Royal Cornwall last week, D Aberfeldy (Glen) and D Rouen Clair (Clariss) were both 3rd in their classes. Glen was in a brood mare/gelding class and was highest placed gelding. Clarris was beaten by 2 colts. This was owner Hannah's only 4th ever show, and Clariss's first. A huge learning curve for Hannah, who is so keen, so a great achievement. Well done!

Dunmere Charlock, owned and much-loved by the Bohgal family, had a quiet 2021, getting to just a few shows, with pleasing results - 2nd Royal Windsor, 1st and Res Champion of Champions at BSPS Champs, and a 2nd and 4th in his HOYS qualifiers. Sue told me that they have a new jockey for him this year, as Frankie, who had been riding him, now owns another Dunmere pony, Astra Nova. Not only is Charlock successful in the ring, but has the most amazing temperament, and is a much-loved member of the family. Thank you, Sue, for keeping in touch.

We are pleased to see that Dunmere Astra Nova (Eric), since being sold on, has been gelded, and was Supreme Champ, with 6 year old Frankie, at his first outing off the lead rein. Obviously Eric has inherited his sire, Glayva's wonderful nature. Wishing Frankie and Eric a lot of fun this season.

December 2021
Dunmere Rouen Clair left Dunmere at 6 months old, the weekend before Christmas, to live with the Crisp family in Cornwall, who already have Dunmere Aberfeldy for Emily to ride.
I still get sad when they leave us, but she had a good start in life here - leading/groomed/picking up feet/catching - before she left, and I know Hannah will give her a very good forever home.
She walked straight into the trailer, and has settled well with her new friend.

I was thrilled to receive a certificate for Greenferns Skylark (Bumble), becoming an ELITE mare with the DPS. A well-deserved accolade for this dear mare!

"Follow the Dream"
Follow the Dream (Rory) went to his new home in Shropshire in Autumn 2021, after a very successful first season under saddle with Mead Show Team. His new owner, Elaine, has competed, mainly in dressage, at top level, having been with horses all her life. She has brought her previous horses to Grand Prix from unbroken, with plenty of hacking, minimum schooling. She has kept in touch, and is thrilled with him in every respect - taking it slowly, getting to know him, and giving him plenty of time to settle in. Lots of hacking. She made me laugh when telling me how good he is with dogs. Anyone who has been here will understand why! His party trick was to stand in his stable sucking poor setter Flora's ear. I am sure Elaine and Rory will have a fantastic summer together, and look forward to following his progress.
Thank you, Elaine, for staying in touch. I was very fond of Rory!

Follow the Dream (Rory)
At the Classic in Lancs., his first ridden show, he behaved beautifully, taking it all in his stride. Pulled in 1st in a class of 6 pre-novice, he did a perfect show, but was swapped with the 2nd placed animal, who was much more experienced.
We were all so proud of this lovely chap, and are looking forward to his next outing, at the end of the month.

Follow the Dream (Rory) - Update
Follow the Dream went to his first ever show, AHS Cornwall group, on 30th May, at the super facilities of Chard Equestrian Centre. He was competing in hand, only giving him time to take it all in, but Tash rode him round with others in one of the arenas. His way of going is a joy to watch - yes, the co-ordination slips occasionally, but he is only 4yo. He hasn't lost his fabulous movement at all. He was beautifully mannered all day (proud breeder/owner day). He really does have the most amazing nature, soft as pudding! We were all thrilled when he won his class, and was Anglo/Partbred Arab Champion (see picture below). He has matured since I saw him working about a month ago. Everyone who has a connection is looking forward to his next show, when he will do the ridden - unfortunately in Lancs, so I won't be there in person. Anglo/Partbred Arab Champion on his first outing! |

Dunmere Sweet Cicely (Mia) has gone on loan, as a M&M L/R, to Mrs Rachael Devakumar, for her daughter Sophia, to be produced by Mead Show Team.
